This February 2025, several of us are participating in the 30-Day Philosophy Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, we choose a quote or concept from a philosopher, past or present, and share it with others. Participating in this activity is actually sharing wisdom with others. My philosopher choice today is WILL ROGERS.

Will Rogers was labeled a humorist, but I like him as a cowboy philosopher who used humor and wisdom to comment on politics, human nature, and everyday life. His sharp wit and down-to-earth insights made him a uniquely American thinker, proving that sometimes the best philosophy comes with a smile and a lasso.

My choice today does deviate from the traditional lists of philosophers who wrote great books. Will Rogers didn’t author traditional books, but he wrote newspaper columns, articles, and speeches filled with his trademark wit and wisdom. Some of his collected works, like The Cowboy Philosopher on Prohibition and There’s Not a Bathing Suit in Russia, were published posthumously, preserving his humorous yet insightful take on politics and society.

Philosophy 30-Day Challenge Guidelines

Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines

  1. Identify your choice of philosopher, and, if necessary, offer up a brief bio on that individual.
  2. If you need help here is a link to some famous philosophers
  3. Provide the quote or concept that is attributed to this philosopher.
  4. If sharing with others use the #Coach4adayChallenge

February 24th-Will Rogers

On Saturday I chronicled Socrates and how his political views got him the death sentence. Will Rogers often poked fun at U.S. presidents with his sharp wit, but he did so in a way that was more humorous than hostile, making him widely beloved not ostracized.

The abundant source of quotes to review came from Goodreads.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
