Today for the 30-Day Sign Coach4aday Challenge my post is about MURALS. Many communities are embracing this form of art being prominently displayed on the side of buildings.
Let’s set the record straight MURALS have been around a long time. Despite their longevity a new focus and purpose has emerged. Neighborhoods and communities are embracing wall art. One obvious reason is that they add beauty to what otherwise might be mundane. Additionally, they can create a sense of pride which encourages people to take care of an area and not let it become neglected.
Small Town Examples
Sometimes a small town can lay claim to being the birthplace of a famous celebrity. That is the case for Marshville NC. Randy Travis is a favorite son and to honor him they created a space for him. Scott Nurkin of the Mural Shop painted what you see below.
Nestled alongside the Knoxville (TN) Visitors Center sits the Postcard from Knoxville that was created in 2013 by a host of artists.
Driving on US 701 thru Conway SC headed to Myrtle Beach SC you are likely to catch a red light at the intersection of Main Street and 4th Avenue. Staring at you will be Kingston Park and Train Mural. The art is on the wall of Rivertown Roasters.
Last one I will share has family ties. One of my nephews helps manage a “speakeasy” in East Nashville TN called “Attaboy“. Another nephew did the mural located near the entrance. My wife and I went for a visit last year and got a picture.
My hometown of Lumberton NC is also seeing murals painted in Historic Downtown which is changing the landscape.
Would love to hear about other wall art that people love.
