Today the #Coach4adayChallenge is to share your earliest MEMORY.

Attempt to go back as far as possible and describe what you remember. Please share how old you were and where this recall took place. For me it took place at 114 Maple Avenue in Morristown NJ and the year was probably around 1956.

114 Maple Avenue Morristown NJ

The house above was actually a multi family residence and my mom and dad moved into the bottom floor late in 1953. The house was just two doors down at the time from Doyle Funeral Home. Today the house that was located in between 114 Maple and the funeral home is a parking lot. We lived there until the spring of 1957. When my mom and dad first got married in May 1952 they were living next to the train station in Far Hills NJ. That multi-family home caught on fire in the fall of 1953 and they moved down US 202 from Far Hills to 114 Maple Ave. in Morristown NJ.

In 1957 my parents now had 4 children which probably forced the move. I was born in 1953, my brother Patrick came along in 54, then Bridget in 55, and Tom arrived in March 1957. That spring my dad worked out a swap with his dad John Joseph Kenney (1879-1962) who we called “Pop”. My grandfather was living at 11 Lake Road in Morristown and he agreed to sell my dad his house. Someone in my family had lived in that house for nearly 60 years. (from the late 1940’s until 2006). One other interesting tidbit was my brother Tom married Cathy Bell Kenney. Cathy’s mom lived in that house before my grandfather.

11 Lake Road Morristown NJ

My grandfather and my step grandmother moved into our old apartment at 114 Maple Ave and we got to call Lake Road home. Pop lived at 114 Maple Ave. until he died (Jan 5, 1962). I have more memories of visiting him on Maple Ave then I do of living there as a small boy. Yet, I can remember one event at that house.

My earliest MEMORY involves my brother Patrick. One night he fell out of the top bunk bed we shared. That fall caused him to break his clavicle. He was probably between 2 and 3 years old. I am 14 months older than him. From that moment on when it came to sleeping in bunk beds my parents promoted me to the top bunk. He and I shared a bunk bed for most of our lives until I went off to college,

What is the earliest MEMORY everyone else has?
