Today 30 Day Daily #Coach4adayChallenge prompt is CELEBRITY.

Share with everyone your most memorable encounter with a CELEBRITY. Please feel free to use your own definition of what qualifies someone for that designation. For me it happened one summer day in Lumberton NC probably around 1990. I had two encounters with Sam Walton.

Sam Walton

Meeting America’s Richest Man

My wife and I decided to go bike shopping for our oldest son Geoff. A new store had opened on Fayetteville Rd in Lumberton and it was called Wal-Mart. I really wanted to purchase the bike at Rose’s but my wife insisted we check out the new retailer. So we looked at few bikes and I was shocked at the quantity and the prices but I was stubborn. No purchase was going to be made before we would check out what Rose’s. While at Wal-Mart we purchases a few small items and were greeted by an older gentleman at the check out line. He was wearing a sports jacket that looked like it had been purchased at a thrift store and was rocking a name tag that said Sam. I didn’t pay him much attention until 20 minutes later.

We drove over to Rose’s after leaving Wal-Mart and headed back to look at the bicycles that they had for sale. I realized that Wal-Mart and my wife were right they had better choices and prices. What I wasn’t counting on was seeing Sam the guy from Wal-Mart walking down the aisles at Rose’s with a pencil and yellow legal pad. He was writing down prices. The light clicked on and I realized the Sam I was talking to a few minutes ago was Sam Walton. My encounter was confirmed the next day when the local paper did a story on his visit.

Here here he was at the time, the richest man in America checking on competitors prices himself.

Please share any encounters you have had with a CELEBRITY
