Really trying to listen to newer albums for the 30 Day Album Challenge but the oldies keep sucking me in. Today I listened to ROD Stewart’s 1971 “Every Picture Tells A Story“.

ROD Stewart has been putting out albums since 1969. “Every Picture Tells A Story” was his third studio album and it followed the successful “Gasoline Alley” album.

This album does contains the mega hit “Maggie May“. Despite that song being the most popular it is the title track that attracts me with its opening lines:

Spent some time feeling inferior
Standing in front of my mirror
Combed my hair in a thousand ways
But I came out looking just the same

The song is filled with all kinds of great lyrics and tells a story of teenage boy who winds up traveling the world and getting into all kinds of misadventures. Another set of lyrics in this song talks about his time in Italy:

Down in Rome, I wasn’t getting enough
Of the things that keep a young man alive
My body stunk, but I kept my funk, whoo
At a time when I was right outta luck
Getting desperate, indeed I was, yeah
Looking like a tourist attraction
Oh my dear, I better get out of here
For the Vatican don’t give no sanction
I wasn’t ready for that, no, n

Glad I got sucked back in to listening to ROD Stewart.
