For December 2023, several of us are participating in the “30-Day ANATOMY Coach4aday Challenge.” My choice today is the ILIOPSOSAS

During this challenge, the participants select a bone or muscle in the human body, providing details about its location and physiological significance.

How the Challenge Works

  1. Identify one anatomical part of the body.
  2. Describe what its purpose is.
  3. Describe where it is located.

Identify Your Choice

My choice today is the Iliopsoas which actually includes two parts, the Psoas Major and Iliacus.

Purpose

It is the primary flexor of our hips. It does not perform extension of the leg at the knee joint. Injuries to this muscle can cause hip pain and loss of mobility.

Location

The iliopsoas is located in the hip region, consisting of two muscles, the iliacus and the psoas major, which extend from the lower spine to the femur. These muscles play a crucial role in hip flexion and are essential for various movements such as walking and bending at the waist.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
