#Hiring February 13
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
Getting the right people on any team is so important. The HIRING process is critical for many businesses.
I was blessed to get to know Don Meyer during my early years as Head Basketball Coach. Don won over 900 games as a college basketball coach and was a fabulous teacher of the game.
Buster Olney at ESPN knew Coach Meyer and was instrumental in E:60 piece being done on him in 2013. Don died in 2014. I encourage you to watch it.
Coach Don Meyer was a dynamic leader who had a penchant for organization. He also was very spiritual and believed in the power of servant leadership. He would often share motivational materials with not only me but others.
Embedded in one set of handouts he gave me was this small blurb on who to HIRE for any job.
The explanation for these 3 names is found in the Bible. I think the reason Don listed them was for the qualities each man possessed that make for an ideal teammate.
Paul-We learn in Paul’s case that God can save anyone. So Paul teaches us about the power of people to change. We also learn about the power of humility in being a leader. Paul was totally committed to the cause.
Barnabas-That was not his real name it was his nickname. His real name was Joseph but his nickname means “Son of Encouragement”. He sold property and gave it to the church. He vouched for Paul when there was great doubt about his conversion. Barnabas realized that what was important was to care about others more than himself. He was empathic.
Timothy-Was a representative of Paul. While Paul was imprisoned Timothy carried on his work without supervision or concern. He was loyal and competent.
When we look at the combined attributes of these 3 names we find humility, passion, commitment, encouragement, empathy, loyalty, and competency.
It is easy to see why Don Meyer listed them when he mentioned HIRING.
