Today we begin a new COACH4ADAY 30 Day Challenge.

Have to give a shout out to Jeff Neelon for the challenge idea for May. The challenge for this month is to share 30 Daily Life Lessons learned from someone else.

I loved this concept for several reasons. One it makes each of us practice gratitude and humility. The talents and leadership qualities each of us have resulted from us learning from others. Secondly it allows us to brag on others and show appreciation for what they have taught us.

I hope you will choose to join this COACH4ADAYCHALLENGE. All you need to do is to recognize someone living or dead that has taught you a life lesson. Just type “I’m In”

My first life lesson is attributed to the late Dr. Ray Pennington. He was a fantastic friend and mentor to not only me but many others.

(L-R) Dan Kenney and Ray Pennington

He taught me much but one Life Lesson that has stayed with my entire professional life is about conducting a meeting. Ray taught me that if a meeting lasted more than one hour you can’t call it a meeting. It needed to be labeled as a retreat, symposium, workshop, conference, or intervention because it is not a meeting. The second teachable moment was the importance of an agenda and not deviating from it. Random points from attendees are reserved for new business not just when the moment moves someone. Too many meetings get hijacked by deviating from the agenda.

Please consider sharing “Life Lessons” you have learned and join us in this 30 Day Challenge. Just respond by saying “I’m In”

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
