Being on a GOLF Course makes me happy. Being there with friends makes me even happier.

The Coach4adayChallenge for June is really simple. Think about a PLACE daily that makes you happy. In my retired life when I don’t have consulting obligations I am on the GOLF course a lot. I average playing 4-5 days a week. One contrarian aspect of playing this game is that bad shots can cause you to become unhappy. The secret to avoiding the many pitfalls of negativity lies with a few tips.

  1. Happiness is a choice. When you three putt , smile. Sometime the rank and file duffers need to lower our expectations. It stings but a friend once told me my golf game is not good enough to get frustrated. I am on a GOLF course that is a blessing.
  2. Play GOLF with happy people.
  3. Enjoy some of the views that a GOLF course can give you.

At the conclusion of a round of golf focus on what you did well. We all have a tendency to remember the triple bogey or three putt and forget the holes we parred. Don’t pass up opportunities to observe wildlife or the beauty of nature. Finally when you approach the first tee don’t anticipate what score you will shoot. Just be happy you are there. Somebody is at work that wants to be where you are at.

One last thing about GOLF, learn the history of the course you play. Last week I learned about the history of Pinecrest Country Club which is located in Lumberton NC. The document was researched by the late I. Murchison Biggs who is the uncle of Kenny Biggs.

Kenny Biggs is my neighbor, a NC State fan, friend, and fellow dew sweeper. A dew sweeper is someone that walks 18 holes and tees off at dawn. In Lumberton he and 6-7 others join me as early morning fixtures at Pinecrest CC.

When I am with these leaders I am in a happy place.
