My friend John Rancke made me aware that on Saturday August 29th a football game was played between University of Central Arkansas (Allen Meadors Alma Mater) and Austin Peay (FLY Williams Alma Mater).

That football game was billed as the FCS Kick-Off Classic.

For those that follow college sports you may already know that a very unique, humorous, and prevalent cheer occurs at Austin Peay Basketball Games. It was originated in part because of James FLY Williams extraordinary street basketball skills. The cheer is “Let’s Go Peay”. It really is an official thing.

The Austin Peay Athletic website takes that cheer serious and features that moniker as their website address https://letsgopeay.com/

Here is a little YouTube video on the Urban Hoop Legend of Fly Williams who was recruited by then Assistant Coach Leonard Hamilton who is currently the Head Coach at Florida State University.

The cheer when FLY Williams played at Austin Peay may be considered risque’ by some, but the FLY’s open-Let’s Go Peay.

Just a little Friday basketball humor for everyone including basketball historian and podcaster Rick Walrond.
