Today the word I have chosen to be part of the 30-Day Quotation Coach4aday Challenge is EXPERIENCES.

Earlier this week my wife and traveled to Charlotte. Prior to departing I did a search on Spotify to look for a new podcast to listen to. My search was focusing on adventure and retirement, and I discovered AdventuRetired. The hosts Cindy and Carl Liljedahl bring on guests and talk about retirement adventures.

During that roundtrip drive I listened to a half dozen episodes and it was clear that what the guests were most excited about were EXPERIENCES not collecting material possessions. In fact, there was an episode about a couple selling or giving away everything unless it could fit into a Toyota Prius. Here is a link to that podcast-it is called “Packed into A Prius”

James Hamblin wrote an article in The Atlantic called Buy Experiences not Things

The article has a lot of scientific research some of it by Thomas Gilovich from Cornell University.

Quote

One of the quotes from the article is below. It galvanizes what guest on AdventuRetired on saying. The lesson is it can apply to all of us not just us retired folks.

Over the past decade, an abundance of psychology research has shown that experiences bring people more happiness than do possessions.”
