For October 2023, I am participating in the “30-Day 30 Words Coach4aday Challenge” where the topic today is on EXPECTATIONS.

October 4th Topic

Living in the 21st Century we have all types of expectations in our lives.

Expectations often arise from a combination of past experiences, social influences, and personal beliefs. They can be shaped by cultural norms, family upbringing, and societal pressures, leading individuals to anticipate certain outcomes or behaviors in various situations. These preconceived notions can impact how people perceive and react to events, influencing their emotions and decisions.

Individuals can choose which expectations are important to them by evaluating their values, priorities, and goals. The Mission Statement from yesterday is an important tool. That concept is what I want to focus on for today’s challenge.

30 Words or Less on Expectations

Find out what roles and values are important to you. You cannot be all things to all people including yourself. Seek to exceed expectations in those areas. The rest is trivial.”

It’s important for everyone to understand the delicate balance that exists when it comes to expectations. Meeting or surpassing expectations can indeed boost self-esteem by validating feelings of competence, achievement, and self-worth. Conversely, excessive or unrealistic expectations can create stress and anxiety when unmet, potentially undermining self-esteem. Ultimately, it’s crucial to remember that our self-worth should not be contingent on our achievements.
