In September 2023 my wife and I are traveling to Iowa. One stop on our itinerary is a particular farm located in the Northeast corner of the state.

Dyersville, Iowa, is a charming small town known for its picturesque landscapes and friendly community. It gained fame as the location for the iconic baseball field featured in the movie “Field of Dreams,” attracting visitors from around the world.

So why go to this farm?

The field in Dyersville gained worldwide recognition and became a symbol of nostalgia and the enduring love of baseball.

1. Real Farm Owner’s Generosity: The movie’s production team scouted many farms in the area to find the perfect location. The property where the baseball field now stands was owned by the Lansing family, who graciously allowed the filmmakers to build the field on their farm. The Lansing family’s generosity made the entire project possible.
2. Ghost Players: In 1988, while filming the movie, the field became the birthplace of the “Ghost Players” phenomenon. The film featured scenes with former baseball players coming out of the cornfields to play ball. These scenes inspired a group of local volunteers who dressed up as “Ghost Players” and entertained visitors by playing baseball and interacting with them.
