Where can you find a large TYPEWRITER store in 2023?

Curiosity will lead you to researching a wide range of questions and topics. Last week I noticed that India has a nostalgic fascination with typewrites.

The typewriter industry has significantly declined since the advent of computers and word processors. India saw the last one produced there in 2009. There may be some other places in 2023 that manufacture typewriters but the only place I could locate was SWINTEK. They are located in the Borough of Moonachie NJ. This town sits about 4 miles north of the Meadowlands Sports Complex.

But back to India. The typewriter is still very much a part of daily life, even on the streets of the capital New Delhi. This BBC published an article India’s Nostalgic Passion for Old Typewriters

If you want to buy a vintage typewriter you destination might have to be a large store called the Universal Typewriter Company.

Rajesh Palta owns the shop which has been in his family for three generations. He repairs and sells vintage keyboards. His inventory varies but it surely ranks as one of the world’s largest.
