Today on Father’s Day I reflected on all I have learned from my DAD and many other men who were DADS.

Here is a picture of my grandfather John Joseph Kenney (1879-1962) holding me as an infant in 1953. He is with my step grandmother Katherine Murphy Kenney (1891-1968). They both lived in Morristown NJ until they died.

In May 2023, I had the joy of becoming a grandfather for the second time. It was a remarkable moment as I held my grandson, Forrest James Kenney, in my arms (see below). As I looked at him, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible legacy of our family. The photograph captured a beautiful connection spanning 70 years, with me holding Forrest, the great-great-grandson of John Joseph Kenney, who once held me in his arms. It was a poignant reminder of the enduring bonds that tie generations together.

I have to say the Kenney gene runs strong in my family at least going back to my Grandfather.

Here are three pictures (L-R) my dad F.D. Kenney (1919-1991) in 9th grade, me in 10th grade, and my youngest son Mack starting 12th grade. There is no denying the resemblance. The family influence is strong.

Adding a fourth picture below of Forrest James Kenney-I believe the DNA is still working.

The influence of a father extends beyond mere biological similarities. It transcends into the realm of character development, which holds far greater significance. Our thoughts, actions, habits, and ultimately our character are shaped by the guidance and lessons imparted by fathers.

Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to receive invaluable lessons from many fathers, including my own. Their impact on my character, whether for better or worse, has been profound. Dads, both near and far, have provided me with a wealth of admirable qualities to emulate.

To all the dads out there, whether you are family, friends, former players, or former colleagues, I wish you a Happy Father’s Day. Your influence and guidance have left an indelible mark on countless lives.
