Savannah GA is a great place to visit. When there I love seeing the CONTAINER Ships sail up the Savannah River on their way to Port of Savannah.
The Port of Savannah is home to the largest single-terminal container facility of its kind in North America, encompassing 1,345 acres. Savannah is also the third-busiest container gateway in the U.S., which means you see lots of CONTAINER ships during most visits to the riverfront in Savannah.
One of the neat things about Savannah is you can track these CONTAINER ships by going to this link
For instance tomorrow (Aug 11) in Savannah the Bulk Carrier Santos Eagle will arrive in Savannah. It left Spain on July 30th.
The CONTAINERS on these ships are mostly measuring 20 ft. or 40 ft. in length. A 40 ft. CONTAINER can hold about 24,900 tin cans or about 48,000 bananas. It can also hold more than 12,000 shoeboxes. That is all in one CONTAINER.
Some of Maersk CONTAINER ships can easily handle 18,000 20 ft. CONTAINERS.
Here is a pretty cool YouTube video of what life looks like on a CONTAINER Ship
