I don’t like using the same title for my posts. I used CHURCH as my title on May 13. I am using it again. Today will be the 9th Sunday in a row I attend CHURCH virtually.
I applaud First Presbyterian Church for the improvements they have made each week.
It was not easy for church leadership to just have a few days to do the first online service on March 22nd but each of the past 8 weeks their spiritual product has improved. They have been inclusive and corrected technical glitches.
In North Carolina the Governor has instituted a three phase approach to returning to in person CHURCH services because of COVID 19. On Friday May 8th we entered Phase 1 which permitted some changes to CHURCH services.
One of the biggest changes was a CHURCH could choose to have more than 10 participants if it was held outside. Yesterday that decision was overturned in a federal court but the matter is probably far from resolved.
Within a 10 block radius of my house there are lots of CHURCHES that took advantage of the initial change ordered by the Governor on Sunday May 10th. The reason I know that is what I heard from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
What I heard in my neighborhood was the amplified sounds of three distinct services each coming from a different direction. One CHURCH emitted sounds that closely resembled Robert Randolph and The Family Band’s rendition of their song Squeeze.
If you have never heard of Robert Randolph give him a listen. The man is a virtuoso on the pedal steel guitar. He learned about music growing up in Orange NJ and being an integral part of House of God Church.
I deep fried a turkey outside last Sunday and dialed up a Robert Randolph playlist I had created on Spotify. You can tell that his musical influence is from CHURCH.
There is song that definitely has spiritual vibe to it that Robert Randolph and the Family Band played on Austin City Limits. The song asks all who listen a great question. The song is titled “I Don’t Know What You Come To Do”
CHURCH is different again this Sunday again but my answer to “What You Come To Do” is still the same regardless of the venue or court order.
