#Inadequate May 16

I had a conversation with an individual that confessed to me he was feeling INADEQUATE for the task he had been assigned at work. We discussed it at length and at the end we agreed on the cause of his feeling of INADEQUACY.

The more we talked about the specifics of what he was responsible it became obvious he was spending no time preparing and planning. He had become victimized by analysis paralysis. His total focus was on he was inadequate so he did nothing for fear of being wrong.

It was hard for him to break out of that feeling but I asked him to just attempt to write down three small tasks that were baby steps to completing the project. I told him when you start your workday do nothing else until you complete the three tasks. I asked him to attempt this for an entire week.

I told him this has to be a sacred promise to yourself. You cannot break it or you lose integrity to yourself. That loss truly will lead to a feeling of INADEQUACY.

He got started and quickly found that after a week he was doing more than three tasks a day. He still had doubts but he also knew he was trying.

The feeling of being INADEQUATE is often the result of someone who doesn’t take time to plan and prepare.
