Mankind has exhibited cruel behavior to many animals over the centuries including the BISON.
Most Americans know that the BISON was almost hunted into extinction from 1820 to 1880. In fact, this sixty-year period of history is often referred to the “Great Slaughter“.
In March I am participating in the 30-Day State Trivia Coach4aday Challenge. I have selected Wyoming as my choice. The State Flag of Wyoming features an image of a BISON. The flag consists of three colors: red, white, and blue. The red signifies the Native Americans and the blood of the colonists. The white represents uprightness and purity. The dark blue is the color of the distant mountains and skies.
Where Do the Buffalo Roam?
Because Yellowstone National Park is located in Wyoming, I assumed it would be the state with the largest population of buffalo. I was not correct. In fact, even though the BISON is on the state flag it is not in the top 5 states according to KRXB Radio. The station did a report and South Dakota with some 33,000 buffalo is the leader.
During my drive across the mountains of North Carolina I saw a Bison farm on US 74 outside of Rutherfordton. I spent 2 nights in Haywood County and there is Trinity Bison Ranch in Clyde NC
