October 19th Topic

Not everyone may subscribe to a quote that comes next. It goes like this “Your purpose in life is to use your talents and gifts to help other people. Your journey in life teaches you how to do that”.

Aligning talent with life’s purpose brings fulfillment. People find fulfillment by pursuing passions that are aligned with their values.

Life’s journey is complicated and for most of us consists of ups and downs along with twist and turns. People I know rarely get to travel a straight and well-defined path. So, at the risk of oversimplifying here are three steps:

  1. Reflect on your values and goals.
  2. Identify your strengths and passions.
  3. Make conscious choices to align actions with your values, passions, and aspirations.

Reality is many of us want to earn a living and that means work. When we trade away our strongest passion for financial gain it sets us up for becoming disillusioned with the workplace.

I am currently reading a Pat Lencioni book titled “The Six Types of Working Genius“. His premise is with those 6 types two of them truly are areas of working genius, two are working competencies, and two are working frustrations.

Here is an alignment warning sign. When the tasks we are primarily tasked with fail to bring us joy and instead generate frustration.

To achieve alignment in your life, stop focusing on your schedule and start prioritizing how to develop your talents and gifts.”
