For the month of April several of us are taking on the “30-Day Conversation Coach4aday Challenge“. Today’s dialog is navigating a strong ACCENT.
Last weekend I traveled to Pennsylvania, and I encountered a lot of strong Philadelphia ACCENTS. Thankfully none of the conversations I had were confusing. Yet sometimes traveling to a different part of the country can cause that to happen. Today’s post covers one of those confusing moments in a restaurant.
April Conversation Challenge
The overarching aim for the 30-Day Conversation Coach4aday Challenge is to engage or to repeat conversations and disseminate them. Whether these conversations hold valuable lessons, shareable insights, or are simply a mishmash of thoughts, the goal remains to foster connection and potential learning experiences for all involved.
Rules of the Challenge
First brevity is the key. Second it is not necessary to fully identify the parties involved but writing it like a script might be helpful. Third the conversations being shared can come from personal experiences, books, films, TV shows, or are imaginations.

April 9th-Accent
Several years back, while traveling with some of my family members in Texas, we encountered a perplexing accent or dialect. This incident took place in a restaurant, where none of us were able to fully grasp what the waitress was asking us.
Waitress: Welcome can I take your drink orders?
My Family: Yes (We placed our drink orders with the waitress)
Waitress: I will go get those drinks but just so you know our Hamburger Steak Lunch Special comes with a “Super Salad”
One of My Sons: (The Waitress leaves) that Lunch Special sounds good
Waitress: (Returns with the drinks) Okay who wants to order first.
My Son: I am going to have the lunch special and how big is the Super Salad?
Waitress: “Honey, it is Super Salad”
My Son: (Making a circular shape with his hands) Yes I want the Super Salad but how big is it?
Waitress: (Waitress slowing down her delivery makes a small circular shape with her hands) No honey it is not a Super Salad it is Soup or Salad?
Our Table: Oh, SOUP or SALAD!
