Today’s contribution to the 30-Day State Trivia Coach4aday Challenge is on WATER. Specifically, a Wyoming lake and a river.
Yellowstone Lake is the largest body of WATER in the state of Wyoming. There are some amazing facts about the lake including its elevation of 7,700 feet about sea level. The water temperature of Yellowstone Lake stays cold all year long. Ice begins to form on its surface in late December or early January, and it remains frozen until late May or early June. Water temps in July only average 57 degrees. Because of the extremely cold water, swimming is not recommended. Survival time is estimated to be only 20 to 30 minutes in water at this temperature.

Bear River is not Wyoming’s longest river it only travels 491 miles far less than the Snake River’s 1078 miles. Yet, Bear River has some amazing facts about it. The Bear River is the largest river in North America that does not drain into the sea. It begins and ends in Utah and crosses the boundaries of states five times. The Bear eventually dumps into the Great Salt Lake, which is a terminal body of water. No water flows out of the Salt Lake.
