If you listened to music in the 1970’s then HOTEL CALIFORNIA by The Eagles was one of the many iconic albums of the decade. It was one that I was certainly going to include in the 30 Day Album #Coach4adayChallenge.

Creating The Eagles began in 1971. Guitarist/singer Glenn Frey, drummer/singer Don Henley, guitarist/singer Bernie Leadon, and bassist/singer Randy Meisner got together. The initial idea was Frey’s; when signed to Asylum by David Geffen, he was advised to form a group – and he did. He had been hired by Linda Ronstadt and her manager John Boylan to get together a group to back Ronstadt on her 1971 tour.

That back-up band led David Geffen to sign them and in 1972 they came out with their first album called “Eagles“. That was followed by “Desperado“. As each album was created they got better and better. After album #4 Bernie Leadon left and was replaced with Joe Walsh on guitar. That took them to another level. In 1976 HOTEL CALIFORNIA which was the band’s 5th studio album they were on top.

Hotel California by The Eagles

Choosing favorite songs off this album is hard to do. HOTEL CALIFORNIA starts off with three fantastic tracks and I even though it is a hard choice I went with “Life In The Fast Lane”. Great lyrics in that song including:

Blowin’ and burnin’,
Blinded by thirst
They didn’t see the stop sign,
Took a turn for the worst

Discography

I realize that I have not listened to a lot of “Johnny Come Lately” albums but maybe I just don’t like the “New Kids In Town” like some of my old favorites. Add HOTEL CALIFORNIA to that list.

Happy Thanksgiving!
