My friend Alex Whitley last week touted on Untapped that he was drinking an Octoberfest.
Yes the cooler weather in Southeastern NC has beer drinkers craving a little darker color for their beers. That means people start looking for porters and stouts to drink.
Octoberfest is actually a Marzen style of beer. You can learn a little more with the video below.
Personally when the weather gets cooler I prefer a beer style called SCHWARZBIER.
SCHWARZBIER is German and means “black beer”. There is evidence that this type of beer was being brewed in the 9th Century B.C. The location or origin of SCHWARZBIER can be pinpointed to Southeastern Germany, Bavaria, and parts of Bohemia.
Many black beers are often associated with having a high bitterness, but not with a SCHWARZBIER. They often carry a light, smooth taste. As a general rule of thumb they contains a low alcohol level of about 3.8-5% ABV content.
One SCHWARZBIER that often shows up on top 10 lists is Duck Rabbit’s SCHWARZBIER.
Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery is a North Carolina company located in Farmville NC and only brews dark beers. Here is that Top 10 List.
So if you are looking to try a dark beer this fall or winter consider a SCHWARZBIER. If you are from North Carolina give Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery dark beers a try.
