In October 2025, many of us will be taking part in the 30-Day Kitchen Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will spotlight an appliance, utensil, or gadget found in a commercial or residential kitchen. The tools and devices used to prepare and cook food is quite extensive and this month we will take a look at both the sublime and ridiculous. My post today is focused on bringing music to the kitchen with a SONOS speaker.

There is research that states that listening to upbeat or steady-tempo music can help maintain a smooth workflow, especially during repetitive tasks like chopping or stirring. In our kitchen we have a Sonos Play 3 sitting next to our Keurig Coffee Maker. When connected to Spotify, Apple Music or Pandora it helps the mood.
Here is what our speaker looks like.

Kitchen-30 Day Challenge Guidelines
As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to sharing something about an appliance, utensil, or gadget found in a Kitchen during the month of October
- Record something about an item found in a Kitchen. Make sure you include a description and its purpose. Try, if possible, to include a photo.
- Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
- Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge
October 20th-Sonos
The Sonos Play:3 was released in July 2011 as part of Sonos’s growing lineup of wireless smart speakers. While the Play:3 was discontinued in 2018 to make room for newer models like the Sonos One and Sonos Five, it remains appreciated by many for its reliability, balanced sound, and versatility in stereo or multi-room setups. I purchased mine in 2013.
One of its standout features at the time was Trueplay tuning, which automatically adjusted the sound based on a room’s acoustics. Like other Sonos speakers, the Play:3 connected over Wi-Fi (not Bluetooth) and could be controlled through the Sonos app, allowing users to stream music from numerous online services
Here is a screenshot of the app that is on my iPhone.
