#Convicted August 9

In August 2025, many of us are participating in the 30-Day Governors Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, we highlight one of the 2,300+ U.S. Governors—past or present—sharing insights into their achievements, controversies, or unique aspects of their careers. For today my choice is going to be on Governors who were CONVICTED of crimes while they were in office.

If you think a Governor being indicted and found guilty of a crime is just limited to the State of Illinois, you would be naive. Yes, Illinois has had four of its Governors go to prison, but other states have not been immune. The list of CONVICTED Governors of either Federal, State, or even post tenure crimes includes more than George Ryan, Otto Kerner, Daniel Walker and Rod Blagojevich.
Governor-30 Day Challenge Guidelines
As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to sharing something about a Governor in August.
- Record something about a particular US Governor. Make sure you include what US State and years that he/she served. Try to highlight an achievement, controversy, or some unique aspect of their career.
- Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
- Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge
August 9-Convicted US Governors
When it comes to one state having Governors go to prison Illinois leads the category. Rod Blagojevich who was Illinois Governor from 2002-2009 was the last to serve time in prison. From 1961 to 2009 the state had eight governors and 50% of them went to prison. Blagojevich served almost 8 years (March 2012-February 2020) of a 14-year sentence.
