Today’s 30 Day Daily #Coach4aday Challenge is to identify your HOMETOWN and one unique fact or story about it.

First a clarification on what defines a HOMETOWN. It can be the place your were born or where you grew up. If your not comfortable with either of those choices you can use your principal place of residence.

My Hometown

My birthplace was not Morristown NJ but it is where I grew up. I moved there before I was one year old so until college it was the only place I lived. Morristown is located in Northern NJ.

Morristown was settled around 1715 by English Presbyterians from Southold, New York on Long Island and New Haven, Connecticut as the village of New Hanover.

My dad graduated from Morristown HS (MHS) in 1937 and I graduated in 1971. The cornerstone of the current MHS building was laid on September 9, 1916. Classes at the current building began on September 4, 1918. The image below is what the school looked like when my dad attended.

Over time there have been window replacements and new additions added on. A few of the notables that are from Morristown NJ include a couple of classmates of mine Craig Newmark the founder of Craig’s List and Tom Hill #87-NFL Official. Even though he is a bit younger than me Dan Quinn the former Atlanta Falcons Head Coach is a Morristown HS Grad.

Below is a 3 minute video that shows you what the town looks like today.
