n July 2025, many of us are taking part in the 30-Day “Tool” Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, the challenge encourages participants to share a tool that can help people with productivity, organization, and communication. Tools are essential in many occupations and hobbies. Today my choice is going to be connected to Pharmacists and is called a MORTAR & PESTLE.

A mortar and pestle set is a traditional pharmacy tool used to crush, grind, and mix medications into fine powders or smooth pastes. It allows pharmacists to compound customized prescriptions, especially when preparing creams, ointments, or powdered doses. The set ensures consistent texture and proper blending of ingredients for accurate dosing and effectiveness.

Tool-30 Day Challenge Guidelines

As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to sharing something about a tool in July.

  1. Record something about a particular tool. It can be physical or digital. It may also be something that has been replaced with advanced technology.
  2. Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
  3. Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

July 21-Mortar and Pestle

In 2022 the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy did a display in honor of their 125th anniversary of the various tools utilized by Pharmacists over that span of time. Here is a link to that article which included the Mortar and Pestle. Students today still take courses that include the methods for using this tool.
