In April 2025, many of us are joining the 30-Day Nature Observation Challenge. Each day, the goal is to share an observation—a plant, animal, or sound—experienced while spending time outdoors. Wise individuals have noted that observing nature enhances mindfulness, reduces stress, and deepens our appreciation for life’s interconnectedness—a challenge well worth accepting.
Today, my observation is on DANDELIONS.

Nature Observation 30-Day Challenge Guidelines
As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. Commit to spending time outdoors for the next 30 days, observing a new plant, animal, or sound each day.

Observation #20-Dandelions
My backyard neighbor has a large patch of Dandelions growing adjacent to the street behind my home. Most of us including me would classify this as a weed but it is technically an herb. As such it has some medicinal benefits.

Those plants are in flowering stage and in a few weeks, they will begin dispersing their seeds when the flower head closes up and that white puffball appears.

The flowers grow on hollow stalks that can range in height from 2 to 24 inches tall. My neighbor has some tall ones.
