Throughout November 2024, several of us are taking part in the 30-Day Dow Jones Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, we explore the history or learn about a company within the DJIA—a key economic and stock market indicator. Today’s post is on SHERWIN WILLIAMS.
Sherwin-Williams was founded in 1866 by Henry Sherwin and Edward Williams in Cleveland, Ohio, originally focused on selling raw materials for paint. One of the breakthroughs in the company history was in 1875, the company developed the first ready-mixed paint, which allowed for easier and faster application.
On Friday November 8, 2024, the paint company joined the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) for the first time in company history. That move came because they have grown because of mergers and acquisitions.
