For the month of September 2024 several of us are going to take on the 30-Day Periodic Elements Coach4aday Challenge. The concept is to show the symbol of one of the 118 elements and give a few facts about it. Today I have chosen He.

He is the symbol for Helium.

Elements 30-Day Challenge Guidelines

Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines.

  1. Each day in September 2024 show the symbol for one particular element.
  2. Share at least one fact about that element
  3. If so inclined use the hash tag #Coach4adayChallenge on social media platforms

September 16th-He

Here are three facts about Helium.

Second Most Abundant Element in the Universe: Helium is the second most abundant element in the universe, after hydrogen. It is primarily produced through nuclear fusion in stars. On Earth, however, helium is relatively rare and is typically extracted from natural gas deposits.

Inert and Non-Flammable: Helium is a noble gas, which means it is chemically inert and does not readily react with other elements. Unlike hydrogen, helium is non-flammable, which is why it is commonly used to fill balloons and airships, making them safe from fire hazards. It is also the second lightest element.

Used in Cryogenics: Helium has the lowest boiling point of any element, at -268.9°C (-452°F), making it essential in cryogenics. Liquid helium is used to cool superconducting magnets in medical MRI machines and in other high-tech scientific equipment requiring extremely low temperatures for operation.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
