I have written posts before on words or objects that I come across in my readings that are new to me. In my quest to read the Bible cover to cover I stumbled across a type of tree I had never heard of before. It was an ACACIA tree.

In the Book of Exodus there are lots of specific instructions and details on how to construct the Ark of the Covenant.

The main component of the Ark was wood from the ACACIA tree.

There are about 1,300 different species of ACACIA trees and shrubs. ACACIA wood is especially prized for furniture, because of its durability, lustrous finish, and varied shades. In fact ACACIA furniture is trending upwards in popularity. Here is a link on ACACIA Furniture.

One variety of ACACIA, red ACACIA or Acacia seyal, is believed to have been used to build Egyptian coffins, the Ark of the Covenant, and Noah’s Ark. Red acacia is native to northern and western Africa.

ACACIA are quite prevalent in Australia also. Hope when the wildfires are over that Australia still has some of these trees standing.
