Today’s contribution to the 30-Day Musical Instrument Coach4aday Challenge is on the GLASS HARP

Once again, a 30-Day Challenge educates me about something I never knew. I have seen people make high pitch sounds with wine glasses but never realized that can be elevated into the category of musical instrument. Learned a lot from a website called GlassHarp.org

Adding to my knowledge was that in the Far East glass instruments were already known to exist going back to the Middle Ages. 

How Wine Glasses Create Sound

A wine glass creates sound when you rub your finger around its rim or strike it with an object. Vibrations of the glass affect the air inside the glass and produce a sound. Each glass vibrates at a characteristic pitch called the resonant frequency. This frequency is different based on the properties of the glass and whether or not there is liquid inside it.

Purchasing a Glass Harp

If you want to purchase a professional instrument there are not many places available. One is a glass instrument maker called GlassDuo who after 20 years of performing started manufacturing the instrument they used. Glass Duo is made up of Anna and Arkadiusz Szafraniec from Poland.
