Today for the 30-Day Election Trivia Coach4aday Challenge the post is Congressmen who have served for 50 YEARS or more.

Members of the US House of Representatives are elected for two years at a time and can serve an unlimited number of terms. For the Senate it is a term of 6 years, and they also can serve without term limits. There have been numerous attempts by some lawmakers to pass statutory term limits, but all of those proposals have been unsuccessful.

Members of Congress who served 50 Years or Longer

I was curious on if anyone has served more than 50 years and realized that there were several. At the present time there is no one serving that has been in that position for 50 or more years but there are three if reelected and fulfilled their newly elected term of office would surpass 50 also. The list of both categories is below>

Current Longest Serving Members of Congress

The three above have been in office since 1976.
