During the election it seemed every candidate experienced a DAGGLE (30 Day Vocabulary Challenge) from their opponent. Reading books distracted me from this annoyance.
I enjoy reading but in all honesty I do not read much fiction. If you enjoy reading the work of talented North Carolina WRITERS who produced novels I have a website for you.
There is a blog that is no longer actively posting new content but it does have a bunch of info on WRITERS and some 1200 novels that were either set in North Carolina or written by a North Carolinian.
The website is called Read North Carolina Novels
One of the cool features of this site is a literary map of North Carolina. You can click on one of North Carolina 100 counties and find WRITERS and novels. For Robeson County I was able to see works by Jill McCorkle, Joseph Mitchell, and shockingly Furman Bisher. I had no idea Bisher, a legendary sports writer in Atlanta GA lived in Lumberton NC. He began his fabulous career at the age of 20 in 1938 as the editor of Lumberton Voice. It was a weekly paper. In 1940 he moved on to High Point NC.
The website above is not a comprehensive list but Wilson Library on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill has something called the North Carolina Collection. Its purpose is to preserve as much literary, visual, and artifactual material from the state of North Carolina.
North Carolina has produced its share of fantastic WRITERS. Reading their works is great habit.
