For March 2024 several of us will be participating in the “30-Day Shout-Out Coach4aday Challenge”. Today the recipient is TONY DELLINGER

Ask any professional fundraiser or executive of a non-profit organization about the significance of committed volunteers, and you’ll receive a resounding affirmation. Within UNC Pembroke Athletics, Tony Dellinger stands out as one of these driving forces, a steadfast advocate for basketball at the university.

Back in 2015 the university recognized Tony with their “Distinguished Alumni Service Award“. Part of that award was for his tireless advocacy for the annual basketball reunion.

Rules of the Challenge

Organizing and participating in the 30-Day Shout Coach4aday Challenge is very simple. Below are the steps.

Here is how to participate.

  1. Identify who gets the daily Shout-Out and make sure they know you are recognizing them.
  2. Describe why you giving them a Shout-Out-what are they doing that is notable?
  3. Do this daily for 30 Days posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

If you need ideas on how to give someone a daily shout-out here is a link on LinkedIn with some ideas that are good for the workplace.

March 3rd-Tony Dellinger

Tony graduated from UNC Pembroke but really never left the area having settled into married life with his beautiful wife Rhonda. He is a fixture living outside of Pembroke and can be seen on campus with his daily walks. He also is a proud grandfather of two adorable children.

He retired from a banking career but never gave up his loyalty to Braves Basketball. He played from 1973-77 alongside teammates Tom Gardner and Kelvin Sampson. If you played or coached at Pembroke Tony has pleaded, cajoled, and begged you to attend the annual reunion each February and to give back monetarily.

Here is the turnout on February 17, 2024, for the Men’s Basketball Reunion. Tony’s hands are all over this group photo.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
