#Test April 13
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
This month I am taking a TEST each day. They are part of April’s Coach4aday 30-Day Exercise Challenge.
Listening to a podcast called “The Art of Manliness” hosted by Brett McKay where the episode was about staying agile and fit. The title was “The Essential Habits for Becoming an Agile, Vital, and Durable Human Being“. I located this podcast on Spotify and the guest was Kelly Starrett who authored the book with his wife Juliet “Built to Move”
My primary focuses this month has been to complete a series of exercises to work on strengthening my core and back. In April I have come to the realization just how important flexibility and agility is as we age. In the podcast Kelly Starrett shares test after test that can determine where we are at. He states the goal is not to become a world class athlete but to live a life with no stiffness, fewer aches and less pain. For the record I am not trying all of them.
Ten Tests
Starrett and his wife are both physical therapists and created a series of 10 tests to assess basic physical capabilities, identify areas of weakness, and prevent potential injuries. These tests are outlined in his book “Becoming a Supple Leopard.” Here they are.:
Shoulder Flexion
Wall Test
Gait
Twist
16 Daily Moves
After you experiment with these exams you may want to incorporate some of these recommended daily moves. Found these in an article titled Stand on one leg – and 16 other life-changing daily moves that will keep your body happy
