Today for the 30 Day Album #Coach4adayChallenge I choose to listen to “Wake Up Everybody” the 1975 album by Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes. The leader singer/drummer for the group was TEDDY Pendergrass.

TEDDY Pendergrass had this surging baritone voice that became the signature for the group who reached their peak of popularity from 1972-1975. The Blue Notes put out songs that were disco dance numbers and smoldering ballads. One example of their influence on disco was a string-laden track called the “The Love I Lost“.

This group became synonymous with what was called “Philadelphia Soul“.

It has been a while since I listened to WAKE UP EVERYBODY from start to finish but so glad I did.

Discography

TEDDY Pendergrass suffered a terrible car accident after leaving the Blue Notes and died in 2010. He was born in Kingstree SC.
