For the month of October 2024 several of us are participating in the 30-Day World Series Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we attempt to learn something about some aspect of the World Series. Today I am profiling how many times a team has SWEPT their opponent.

When you opponent in the World Series does not allow you to win a single game you have been swept. That has occurred twenty-one times.

World Series 30-Day Challenge Guidelines

Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines.

  1. Each day in October 2024 write about the World Series
  2. Share at least one fact about the event or the participants.
  3. If so inclined use the hash tag #Coach4adayChallenge on social media platforms

October 7th-Swept

There are some interesting facts about the series that ended up with the winning team getting the sweep. First is the number of times the NY Yankees have been involved. The Bronx Bombers have been part of 11 of the 21 times one team lost 4-0. They won eight and lost just three. Victories came in (1927-1928-1932-1938-1939-1950-1998-1999) and being on the goose egg end of being swept came in (1922-1963-1976)

The last team to win a World Series 4-0 were the San Francisco Giants in 2012. What was amazing was in the 2012 NLDS Best of Five Series the Giants were down 2-0 and came back and won three in row.

In the 2012 NLCS the Giants got behind 3 games to 1 to the St Louis Cardinals. They won 3 straight games to move on to the 2012 World Series where they defeated the Detroit Tigers 4-0.
