This week for Song Lyric Sunday our host Jim Adams for has given us the prompt of Hold/Pause/Stop/Wait I am going to choose Stop.
Here are the “rules”:
• Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it contains the prompt words or not. If it does not meet the criteria, then please explain why you chose this song.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.
• Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
• Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
• Have fun and enjoy the music.
I had a few songs that came right away to me when I saw this prompt. Here are a few Stop Songs I thought of
STOP in the Name of Love by The Supremes recorded in 1965
Who’ll STOP the Rain-by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Don’t STOP by Fleetwood Mac and written by Christine McVie. This song featured Stevie Nicks on tambourine and background vocals.
Despite those three I decided on a song written by Tom Petty and Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers but is often associated with Stevie Nicks called:
STOP Dragging my Heart Around.
The crazy thing about this song is you can claim it was a song that some producers and record labels deemed as a reject. The story on how it went from the trash pile to the hit single is a great read.
Stop Dragging My Heart Around was included on Stevie Nicks 1981 solo debut studio album Bella Donna
Here are the lyrics:
The promotional video of this song was the 25th video played when MTV debuted on August 1, 1981. Here is a list of the first MTV videos
I have posted two videos-first one is from 1981 and second a live performance some 25 years later in 2006. I guess a lot of us just want to remember a younger Stevie and Tom and resonate with the 1981 video..

2006 Live Concert
I’ll just STOP here.
Great song! THanks for sharing!
