#SongLyricSunday – Something To Talk About – January 24

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

This week our host Jim Adams for Song Lyric Sunday has given us the prompt to find a song that captures the theme of Chat/Laugh/Rant/Scream/Talk.

Take some time to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this music challenge, and even better, read as many of them as you are able to as you will probably find many enjoyable songs and it is quite possibly that you will learn a thing or two.

Here are the “rules”:
• Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it contains the prompt words or not.  If it does not meet the criteria, then please explain why you chose this song.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.  Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be.
• Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
• Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
• Have fun and enjoy the music.

Being a blues artists is tough. Being a female blues artists is even tougher. One female blues artist I admire is Bonnie Raitt. Some may argue she is hybrid. She records songs that combine blues, rock, and R&B. I still consider her to be a blues artist.

Bonnie Raitt’s dad was John Raitt a star and legend on Broadway. Bonnie Raitt started guitar lessons at age eight, her real passion didn’t begin until a few years later when she first discovered slide guitar and the blues. She went off to college at both Harvard/Radcliffe and was majoring in social relations and African studies. Yet playing music at local coffee houses became her passion. About three years into her studies, she decided to pursue music full-time.

The song I choose “(Let’s Give Them) Something to Talk About” written by Shirley Eikhard. The song won a Grammy award for Bonnie Raitt (1991 Best Female Pop Vocal) and skyrocketed Eikhard onto a higher plane of financial freedom and professional respect.
