On Friday May 23rd at 2:30 p.m. May 23rd my wife and I received a spontaneous offer from some friends to spend the night with them at North Myrtle Beach, SC. It is just 70 miles away. In less than an hour we were packed and headed to the beach.

North Myrtle Beach SC

It was the first trip out of Lumberton NC since early March. It was fantastic to sit next to the I.C.W. and take a 2 mile walk on the beach. The therapeutic effect of being next to the water never cease to amaze me.

ICW and beach

It was a quick trip and we were headed back home before 12 Noon on Saturday. During the ride home I listened to a playlist by LITTLE FEAT on Spotify.

I was moved by the lyrics of several songs. It was like the late Lowell George was offering me up some COVID 19 coping advice.

Little Feat

Two songs in particular offered up some poignant advice about dealing with the pandemic life. We all need to keep pressing on and not give in. The song that drove home that point was “Easy to Slip”

The lyrics that got me were these:

It’s so easy to slip
It’s so easy to fall
And let your memory drift
And do nothin’ at all
All the love that you missed
All the people that you can’t recall
Do they really exist at all

The second piece of advice had to deal with how to cope and it came from the song “Fool Yourself”

You might say you ain’t got a hold on yourself
You might say you always try your best
You might say you only need a rest
You might say you can only fool yourself
I said fool yourself
I said fool yourself

Here is the video

With COVID 19 it is both “Easy To Slip” and to “Fool Yourself” the important thing might be to “Keep your eyes on the road that’s ahead of you” that are lyrics from a 3rd Little Feat song called  “All That You Dream”

I’ve been down, but not like this before
Can’t be ’round this kind of show no more
All, all that you dream
Comes to shine in silver lining
And clouds, clouds change the scene
Rain starts washing all these cautions
Right into your life, make you realize
Just what is true, what else can I do
Just follow the rule
Keep your eyes on the road that’s ahead of you
I’ve been down, but not like this before
Can’t be ’round this kind of show no more
