Professional RODEO is a pretty big sport in the West. Sport Business Daily estimates that 43 million people a year watch a RODEO. For the 30-Day State Trivia Coach4aday Challenge offering up facts about Wyoming connection.

Athletes that compete in these events often belong to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Estimates are that there are 4,727 cowboys who are PRCA cardholders competing in dozens of rodeos. Most competitors participate in an estimated 30 rodeos throughout the year, where according to the official PRCA website, more than 100 cowboys have earned $1 million.

College Sport

Having spent most of my life around college athletics I have to admit I have never witnessed a collegiate RODEO event. In Wyoming that is a big thing. There is the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) that sponsors the sport with a gigantic contingent of Wyoming Colleges involved.

NIRA has a number of regions across the country including the Central Rocky Mountain Region which includes the State of Wyoming. You can click the standings link to see how each college in Wyoming is doing to date. It apparently is popular look at the roster for the University of Wyoming and also Gillette College.

Cody Night

Cody WY bills itself as the “Rodeo Capitol of the World”. From June 1 to August 31 every night there is a RODEO. Gates open at 7:00 p.m. with rodeo action kicking off at 8:00 p.m. All seating is general admission and ticket prices for 2022 are $23.00 per adult.
