#Resolve February 22
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
For February 2024 several of us will be participating in the “30-Day RE Coach4aday Challenge”. The challenge involves utilizing a word that includes the prefix Re. Today my word is RESOLVE.
Today, I have the opportunity to embark on a journey by plane to collaborate with a university where I’ll be aiding them in an executive search. Tomorrow, I’ll engage with a group of individuals on the search committee who will need to exhibit determination and resolve in selecting the candidates who will progress to the next phase of their process.
Rules of the Challenge
Organizing the 30-Day RE Coach4aday Challenge involves performing, writing, or sharing about an event that captures the essence of the prefix. connections.
Here is how to participate.
- Identify what word that uses the prefix RE you choosing for the day. It is okay to repeat words.
- Describe or share how you accomplished utilizing that word.
- Do this daily for 30 Days posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge
February 22-Decision Making
Each of us is faced with lots of decisions every day. In an organization the most important choice is who gets to be offered the chance to join their team.
Selecting or deciding on that best choice in hiring needs to adhere to framework that addresses a host of issues and steps. Included in that are four big concepts that each need to be worked on.
First is do you know what you are looking for. So many organizations rely on a generic job description. A better approach is creating a scorecard or matrix of what the team needs the new hire to achieve. Second is creating a source of candidates who have demonstrate in their career they have done those things. Third is a systematic way of interviewing candidates. Finally, is engaging in comprehensive reference interviews to validate what you have learned. A great source for this methodology is in Geoff Smart and Randy Street’s book called WHO:The A Method For Hiring.
It takes resolve to be committed to a decision-making framework in hiring. It also can become disastrous when an organization doesn’t have that commitment to a process.
