If you live in West Virginia, you probably know one of the most knowledgeable sports minds belongs to Frank Giardina. A few days ago, he posted something about regional breweries that sponsored many MLB teams in the 1960’s. Many of those beers have been REBRANDED.

Frank rattled off many radio beer commercials he remembered hearing growing up. He was correct because when TV stations started broadcasting baseball games, they copied radio and had beer part of the game and in between innings. As a kid I can remember Mel Allen calling every NY Yankee Homerun a “Ballentine Blast”. Ballentine was brewed in Newark NJ

Some other baseball tie ins to regional beers include Boston Red Sox and Narragansett Beer, and the Minnesota Twins and Hamm’s Beer.

Two other beer that I remember that were part of baseball advertising included Rheingold which was the official beer of the NY Mets and Schaefer which sponsored the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1951-1957.

Here is a list of past beer brands all now being under control of Pabst Blue Ribbon.
