#Play January 8

For January 2025, several of us are taking part in the 30-Day Song Lyrics Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we utilize a theme and post the SONG LYRICS from a song that connects the two. Today my theme is on Child’s Play and my song is “WHERE DO THE CHILDREN PLAY”
Today is a magical day for the City of Lumberton NC and the civic club Kiwanis of Robeson Lumberton as they unveil an inclusive playground in Penington Park for children with special needs. This Kiwanian project was to celebrate the club’s 100th anniversary. Full disclosure I’m a Kiwanis member and proud of the legacy we are leaving for children in our community.
My song today Where Do the Children Play comes from a 1970 album Tea for The Tillerman released by Cat Stevens who today goes by the name Yusuf Islam (He converted to Islam in 1977). Even though Stevens was from England in the 1970’s his biggest market was the US.

Jan. 3rd-Theme-Play-Song-Where Do the Children Play
This song is probably more about pollution than a playground, but I am excited that a group of special children in our community will have a chance to be active.
Lyrics -Where Do the Children Play
Well, I think it’s fine
Building jumbo planes
Or taking a ride on a cosmic train
Switch on summer from a slot machine
Yes, get what you want to if you want
‘Cause you can get anything
I know we’ve come a long way
We’re changing day to day
But tell me, where do the children play?
Well, you roll on roads
Over fresh green grass
For your lorry loads
Pumping petrol gas
And you make them long
And you make them tough
But they just go on and on
And it seems that you can’t get off
Oh, I know we’ve come a long way
We’re changing day to day
But tell me, where do the children play?
Well, you’ve cracked the sky
Scrapers fill the air
But will you keep on building higher
‘Til there’s no more room up there?
Will you make us laugh?
Will you make us cry?
Will you tell us when to live?
Will you tell us when to die?
I know we’ve come a long way
We’re changing day to day
But tell me, where do the children play?
Video-Where Do the Children Play
This video came out many years after the song was released. If you have time to listen to an entire album, give “Tea for the Tillerman‘ a listen.
