Today for the 30-Day Election Trivia Coach4day Challenge to focus is on a US President who NEVER VOTED.
Yesterday’s post was about a Vice President and President who was never elected. Today it on a US President who didn’t vote until he ran for President.
“Old Rough and Ready” was the nickname given to President Zachary Taylor. When it came to voting he apparently was never ready. The only election he ever cast a ballot in was the one that involved him as President.
Facts About Zachary Taylor
Zachary Taylor was born in Virginia, but his family moved to the frontier of Kentucky. He spent his childhood there.
At the age of 64 he was elected President of the United States in 1849 despite never having voted in an election previously.
He was nominated to run for President by the Whig Party. In the election of 1848, he defeated Lewis Cass 163-127 (Electoral Votes)
Taylor had the third shortest tenure of any US President serving just 492 days. That brief period of time (1849-1850) was full of problems for his administration. He had corrupted cabinet members involved in financial irregularities with the Galphin Affair.
