We all have a friend or co-worker that utters phrases like. “I never win anything” or “I have no LUCK”

The pandemic has caused each of us ponder the bad LUCK or misfortune that has come our way the past year. On the opposite end of this spectrum there are people who view themselves full of good fortune or just LUCKY. Last week I revisited some of Jim Collins works and rediscovered a couple of phrases. Collins likes to use “Who LUCK” and “Return on LUCK”. Just what do they mean?

Collins has written many great books including Good to Great. In that book he touches on what he and his team learned about LUCK.

In his research, Jim Collins found all companies have lucky and unlucky events. I think the same thing can be said for all of us. When these moments happened to good companies, they would double down on that LUCKY events and get the most out of it allowing them to better handle the UNLUCKY ones. Collins was convinced that approximately the same amount of good and bad LUCK happen to all companies and all people.

What we do with that good fortune become “Return on LUCK”.

We all cross paths with different people, yet choosing to get to know them can make us “Who LUCKY”. We have to invest in creating a relationship in order to receive a dividend. We also have to recognize that when new people come into our lives we have to spend energy to help the bond grow. In my own life I am indebted to so many people that have invested in me by mentoring, guiding, and for whatever reason choosing to become my friend. What fantastic LUCK.

The pandemic has proven to me despite the obstacles of 2020 I have a “Who LUCKY” life.
