During the month of July, I have taken up the 30-Day Curiosity Coach4aday Challenge, and today’s focus is on LED lights.

The mechanics of this challenge involve presenting a question and subsequently uncovering the optimal response.

July 6th Curiosity Question

What should I know about LED lighting?

LED stands for light emitting diode. LED lighting products produce light up to 90% more efficiently than incandescent light bulbs. That still does not help me understand how they work.

July 6th Answer on LED

Well, there is a lot to learn.

Here are some important things I learned.

  1. Energy efficiency: LED lighting is highly energy-efficient compared to traditional incandescent and fluorescent lighting options. LEDs can convert around 80-90% of the energy they consume into light, whereas incandescent bulbs waste a significant amount of energy as heat.
  2. Long lifespan: LEDs have an impressive lifespan, typically lasting between 25,000 to 50,000 hours or even longer, depending on the quality of the LED and usage conditions. This longevity makes them ideal for areas where frequent bulb replacement is inconvenient or costly.
  3. Directional lighting: LEDs emit light in a specific direction, making them inherently more efficient in applications where focused or directional lighting is required. This characteristic allows for precise illumination in specific areas without the need for additional reflectors or diffusers.
