#Jump January 27

For January 2025, several of us are taking part in theĀ 30-Day Song Lyrics Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we utilize a theme and post the song lyrics from a song that connects the two. Today my theme is on jump or stomp and my song is JUMP JIVE an’ WAIL.

My choice today is a 1956 jazz swing song written and performed byĀ Louis PrimaĀ titled ā€œJump Jive anā€™ Wail ā€œ. I first heard this song when The Gap used Primaā€™s version in a ā€œKhakis Swingā€ commercial in 1998. To say that Prima had an influence on American music is an understatement. His music lives on today in cinema and TV shows.

The song first appeared on his albumĀ The Wildest!Ā and became one of his signature songs.Ā Keely Smith,Ā Primaā€™s wife at that time, was one of the backup singers on the song. The song also won a Grammy in 1999 for TheĀ Brian SetzerĀ Orchestra forĀ Best Pop PerformanceĀ . The sax intro to the song is fantastic.

One interesting thing I learned about Louis Prima was his love of golf. He built his own golf course in 1970 and called it Warm Spring Country Club but it was dubbed the ā€œFairway to the Starsā€. The Las Vegas NV course closed in the 1970ā€™s.
